PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Oversee editorial content of a weekly celebrity magazine
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop, research and write copy for sections
Write features, display copy and captions
Line edit features, and other departments for the magazine
Assign articles
Liaise with photo and art departments
Attend industry events and launches
Maintain network of industry contacts and keep up to date on celebrity news, trends and issues
Attend editorial meetings and brainstorm ideas for content
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Editorial team, Art and Photo departments
External: Freelance writers and industry contacts
POSITION AUTHORITY/ ACCOUNTABILITY:
This position is directly accountable to the Executive Editor
Authorized to decide content for sections and assign articles
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Will be required to work overtime
Occasional travel may be required
Qualifications
Post secondary degree or diploma in journalism or equivalent work experience
5 - 8 years of progressive editing/writing experience
Experience working with entertainment and celebrity-related material
Strong attention to detail
Strong writing and editing skills
Experience in a MAC environment, experience with InDesign an asset
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Willingness to collaborate with a creative team
Willingness to work independently
Ability to manage time well in a multi-deadline fast paced environment
